Singing is Bernita's way of personal expression. Consequently, she is just as at home with Jazz as she is with Gospel.

She wants to help keep the vocal jazz tradition alive. Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughan, Dianne Reeves, Rachel Farrell and Sandy Patton are her most admired singers, but finding her own style is Bernita's main goal. Bernita sang in the Ambassador Big Band from 1983-1998, which proved to be still another musical challenge that she was able to master. "She's not only has temperament, but she has an absolute impressive good smoky voice independent upon a microphone". (Solothurner Zeitung)

Martin Albrecht Quartet's live recording; First Edition is the CD on which Bernita in 1993 was first featured. "A tidbit for the jazz fans, Martin Albrecht Quartet and Bernita Bush with her soul-sound that went under your skin." (Solothurner Zeitung). Many other CDs followed thereafter.
